Groundwater Politics

It is my honor to be the member of the Research Network of Water and Land in Taiwan. Our current project is to address Yunlin's groundwater overuse and land subsidence issues. Yunlin has the most serious land subsidence in Taiwan, ranking first in Taiwan in terms of either the land subsidence area or average subsidence rate. A total of 413 square kilometers in Yunlin County is in a state of constant subsidence, accounting for 70% of land subsidence in Taiwan. Also the subsidence rate of the most recent year was up to 7 cm, which is the worst in Taiwan.
